A cup final much remembered for the challenge by Tottenham’s Paul Gascoigne on the Nottingham Forest Gary Charles, this was Gascoigne second harsh tackle in just a few minutes and all the ref did was give him a lecture on both occasion, where many pundits believed he should of been sent off, as it transpired Gascoigne had to go off injured, just after the first goal, this goal came about from the free-kick of the second tackle when Stuart Pearce scored from the free kick to put Nottingham Forest 1-0 up. On the 25th minute Tottenham thought they had scored through Gary Lineker but it was ruled out for being offside, on the 30th minute Gary Lineker was brought down in the area and a penalty was awarded but the Nottingham Forest Goalie saved it.

10 minutes from the re-start for the second half Tottenham did equalise through a low shot by Paul Allen, this scoreline stayed until the final whistle, so extra-time was needed, 4 minutes had gone when Tottenham had a corner the ball was knocked over to the far post where Gary Mabbutt was ready, but it was intercepted by Nottingham Forest Des Walker who deflected into the goal, an own goal, Tottenham held out and at the time picked up the trophy for a record 8th time.
