It was contested between unfashionable and unfancied Wimbledon and Liverpool who were one of the most dominant teams of the 1980s and newly-crowned league champions. The result was one of the biggest shocks in the history of the competition as Wimbledon, the London side won the Cup, 1–0, for the only time in their history. The final is also notable as the first instance of a penalty save (by Dave Beasant from John Aldridge) in FA Cup Final history. Beasant was the first goalkeeper to captain an FA Cup winning side. This final was the last one that would be screened by ITV and BBC, something that had been the case since 1958. Wimbledon took the lead shortly before half-time, when Lawrie Sanchez’s header, from a Dennis Wise free kick on the left, went across goalkeeper Bruce Grobbelaar and into the net. Liverpool created a host of chances, including a strike by Peter Beardsley disallowed as the referee had already awarded a free kick to Liverpool, but were unable to find a way past Wimbledon goalkeeper Dave Beasant. The Merseysiders were awarded a penalty on the hour mark following a foul by Clive Goodyear, but John Aldridge’s shot was saved by Beasant, who thus became the first keeper to save a penalty in a Wembley FA Cup final. Wimbledon survived more pressure from Liverpool to secure their first major trophy and a notable upset. 5 F A Cup semi final football programmes 1982, 1988,1968,1981 & 1988Current Price : £ 11.00 (0 Bids)-Closes in : 1 hours 59 minutes 36 secondsDetailsoriginal 1988 fa cup final WIMBLEDON LIVERPOOL ticket Current Price : £ 9.99 (0 Bids)-Closes in : 4 hours DetailsFA Cup Final Program 1988, Liverpool v WimbledonCurrent Price : £ 5.00 (0 Bids)-Closes in : 4 hours Details1988 FA Cup Semi FINAL NOTTINGHAM FOREST v LIVERPOOL, 9th April (Printed Signed)Current Price : £ 7.99 DetailsWimbledon 1988 FA cup final art print / posterCurrent Price : £ 15.99 DetailsFA Cup Final Mousemat Personalised (All years 1953-2019)Current Price : £ 7.99 DetailsArsenal Scarf Vintage Retro Red White Football Soccer FA Cup Final 1988 Gunners Current Price : £ 19.99 Details1988 FA Cup Final Liverpool v Wimbledon - Football ProgrammeCurrent Price : £ 5.00 (0 Bids)-Closes in : 2 days 18 hours DetailsWIMBLEDON V LIVERPOOL FA CUP FINAL 1988 (4 RARE MAGAZINERS)Current Price : £ 8.99 (0 Bids)-Closes in : 2 days 20 hours Details14 MAY 1988 LIVERPOOL v WIMBLEDON FA CUP FINAL DAWN FOOTBALL COVERCurrent Price : £ 6.99 DetailsWimbledon V Liverpool 1988 FA Cup Final Programme Ex Condition.
