First division Tottenham appearing in their seventh FA Cup Final having won the previous six that they participated in against second division Queens Park Rangers.

Not one of the classic finals though the Queens Park Rangers defence kept the Tottenham strike force at bay who were reduced to taking some long range efforts, but during normal time the Queens Park Rangers Peter Hucker kept all the efforts away from the goal. The game went to extra-time and with just minutes of the extra time, Tottenham found a breakthrough a Glenn Hoddle shot from just outside the Queens Park Rangers penalty box took a deflection and ended up in the goal, but Queens Park Rangers didn’t collapse and fought back when Terry Fenwick headed in a equaliser goal to force the cup final into a replay.

Five days later and six minutes into the game Graham Roberts of Tottenham was brought down in the Queens Park rangers penalty area by Tony Currie, the referee immediately whistled for a penalty which Glen Hoddle duly took and sent the QPR goalkeeper Peter Hucker the wrong way to put Tottenham one goal up. Queens Park rangers did manage to put the ball in the Tottenham net but it was ruled out for offside.
