Leeds were the better organised team in this final, with the defence in fine form stopping the threat from the Arsenal forward exceedingly well.

Leeds United who have never won the FA Cup prior to this cup final opened the scoring in the 53rd minute when Mick Jones crossed the ball to Allan Clarke who headed it past Geoff Barnett in the Arsenal goal.

Arsenal were hoping to become the third club behind Newcastle United (1952) and Tottenham (1962) to win the FA Cup in consecutive seasons.
