This was the first time in the FA Cup final that two teams from London were competing against one another, this final was dubbed the ‘Cockney Cup’. Tottenham came into the game being undefeated since January and it showed, after 15 minutes Jimmy Robertson fired towards the Chelsea goal but Peter Bonnetti managed to turn it around the post, then Jimmy Robertson with a similar type shot saw the ball go just above the crossbar. Chelsea did manage a few attempts at goal but the majority of the play was by Tottenham who just kept pressing forward. From a Tottenham free kick the ball was put into the Chelsea area but the shot was parried away by Peter Bonnetti only to land at the feet of Jimmy Robertson who fired it into the net with just 5 minutes left to half-time. Jimmy Robertson was involved in the build up to Tottenham’s second goal at the 67th minute mark, as he headed the ball to Frank Saul who turned majestically to fire the ball into the bottom right hand corner. Tottenham began to sit back a bit and this allowed Chelsea to exert some pressure themselves which paid off with 5 minutes left as Bobby Tambling headed in what was just a consolation goal.
