The Leeds United team included Albert Johanneson, who was the first black football player to play in a FA Cup Final.
This was not a game for the feint-hearted as the two busiest people involved in the first quarter of an hour were infact the two Physio’s, at one stage play was held up for two minutes while a player from either side were being treated. The star of the game for Leeds was their goalkeeper Gary Sprake who kept the pressuring Liverpool side at bay with some tremendous saves. Despite Liverpool dominating the majority of the game they never found a breakthrough and after the 90 minutes the score was unbelievably still 0-0.
But it only took 3 minutes of the extra-time for Liverpool to score a goal from Roger Hunt who headed in a Gerry Byrne cross, 7 minutes later from a Liverpool clearance the ball was played back into the goalmouth where Jackie Charlton headed the ball into the path of Billy Bremner who volleyed it into the goal, 1-1.
Liverpool tied the game up with 7 minutes left on the clock through a Ian St.John goal.
