Leicester City would normally play in Blue shirts while Manchester United would play in Red shirts, but because on a Black & White television these would look the same so the two teams had to toss a coin for choice of colour, Leicester lost the toss and wore White.
Despite finishing higher in league, Leicester struggled against a Manchester United side that had just avoided relegation. Leicester had 3 glorious chances to open the scoring in the first 15 minutes through errors by the United’s goalie Dave Gaskell but the Leicester players all failed to capitalize on the errors. Manchester United gradually took contro; of the game and on the half hour mark opened the scoring with Denis Law hooking the ball in, he was unfortunate not to get a second just before half time.
12 minutes into the second half Bobby Charlton raced into the area and fired towards the goal, Gordon Banks the Leicester goalkeeper could only palm it away and it fell to David Herd who scored into a empty net. In the 80th minute Ken Keyworth with a diving header reduced the deficit and what could be a Leicester fightback but it was Manchester United who still dominated the game and finally sealed it on the 85th minute with david Herd getting his second of the game.
