The game remained goal-less until just before half-time when a Wolverhampton shot at goal was deflected off of a Blackburn defender into the goal. Then things got worse 2 minutes later for Blackburn when Dave Whelan a Blackburn defender went into a tackle against Wolverhampton’s Norman Deeley and fractured his leg, he had to go off and was unable to resume playing, as substitutes were not permitted, Blackburn had to play the remainder of the game with just 10 men. Wolverhampton scored again in the 50th minute, but it was adjudged to be offside and so was disallowed, in the 67th minute from a corner Norman Deeley slotted home the ball to make it 2-0, Wolverhampton had another disallowed goal moments later and with 2 minutes on the clock Wolverhampton sealed their victory as Norman Deeley got his 2nd of the game.
