Preston went in at half time with a one goal lead, a goal scored by O’Donnell in the 44th minute, Sunderland came out in the second half all fired up, and within 6 minutes Gurney scored the equaliser.

Carter put Sunderland ahead in the 70th minute and just before the end Sunderland sealed the win,with a goal from Burbanks.
