The 2009 FA cup winners CHELSEA against the 2008 FA cup winners PORTSMOUTH, in a afternoon where many personal achievements were broken, Ashley Cole picked up his 6th FA Cup winners medal and is now the most decorated player in FA cup history, Didier Drogba winning goal kept his record of scoring in each of the 6 finals he has appeared in at Wembley. Chelsea became only the 7th team to achieve the coveted League and Cup double, having won the league the previous weekend.

This match was top versus bottom of the premiership, Portsmouth who had a turmoil season, which saw them go into administration and get points deducted and then relegation as the bottom team. So many people thought this would be a walkover for Chelsea, but Portsmouth had other ideas.

After a scoreless first half Portsmouth had a great chance to take the lead after 54 minutes when they were awarded a penalty but Kevin-Prince Boateng spot kick was saved by Petr Cech, 4 mintes later Didier Drogba scored the only goal of the final, Chelsea did have a chance near the end to increase the score but Frank Lampard failed to put his penalty away.
