Postponed Matches Football Programmes

One area of football programmes that has gained considerable interest of late, is the collecting of football programmes for matches that were called off. As the football club have their football programmes printed days in advance of the match, when the weather or any other incident forces the cancellation of the match, the programme is already for dispatch, various courses over the years have been taken, on some occasions the complete print run are destroyed, while even when this happens some still manage to get into the public domain. Another popular practice especially in the 70''s was to save the print run and use them when the game was re-arranged and just use a insert for the new game.

Tip : When buying a football programme from a postponed game, make sure a new football programme was produced for the re arranged date, as some clubs used the original programme and just added an insert for the re-arranged fixture.

The two pictures show part of the programme produced for Manchester United Vs Bristol City, the original fixture shown was due to be played on December 11th 1976.

This game was postponed, and the football programme produced for this game has fetched a winning bid of £696 at auction. A football programme was also printed for the re-arranged match this game  was actually played on 19th January 1977.

Another  football programme for a postponed match in 1973 for a game between Manchester City and Manchester United was sold for £365.
1986 West Ham United Vs Manchester United 1986 FA Cup POSTPONED sold £496.

As you can see football programmes that were printed for a game that was postponed have some value to the collector

Feb 2011 : 1946/47 Manchester United Vs Portsmouth(Programme number 13) sold on eBay for £1,171.00 with 5 bidders between them making 22 bids.
